The global environmental threat is one of the most discussed issues of the 21st century. While it is considered widely that technological advancements are getting us closer and closer to finding a solution to this catastrophe. One still ponders on the question amid a rising problem, are we moving toward a solution or do more catastrophes await us? Can we achieve environmental goals with technology or is there something else we need to adopt before its too late? Maybe its time to start advocacy for primitive naturism?

While renewable energy has been considered a step forward because of its less carbon footprint, a lot of environmentalists ask if this renewable energy is also green? Similarly, many other questions arise when it comes to technological advancements, whether it is about food security which seems to have increased over the years but at the same time health and well-being have been going down recently, the productivity is improving in almost all sectors but at the cost of the environment. In short, anytime we have come up with a solution for an existing problem we have ended up with a set of new problems to follow up on.

Around a year ago when I was in France, I decided to homestay with a family that lived in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. While the stay was ordinary like any other of my Couchsurfing or homestay it was a unique experience to learn the values of family. For 3 days I spent with them the first two were in their home in Marseille while the third day we went to a farmhouse. I remember it was Saturday and we went to harvest the “produce of the week”. Marion and Robin who were my host introduced me to the concept of net-zero by growing their food, processing their waste, and living as a naturist. Even their house in Marseille was total zero-waste heaven.

Marion and I had a very long conversation about the net-zero lifestyle that night where she explained to me how everything worked with her and her family. The two kids were the only ones to consume clothing, while even their clothes were made totally out of organic material according to Robin. As per my point of view, it was a luxury that they were able to afford all this, however, according to Marion even though it was a luxury, given the circumstances was changed she was happy to just get rid of customary clothing all along.

All the food that was being consumed by the family was being produced through the farmhouse and all the energy was being produced via the windmill located in the farmhouse. Although for their house in Marseille was being powered by solar which is one of the reasons Robin wanted to leave the house and start living on the farm. However, circumstances did not support this since they were raising 2 children who required education, socializing and other basic needs that will be hard to have in a suburb.

I remember when we were concluding the conversation at night Marion mentioned one statement that was enlightening to me. She said, “Look at where we stand today, there are 8 billion people and the population is increasing while the quality of life keeps decreasing, the conventional farming is an issue, energy need is an issue, the thing is if our growth was organic, we would not be in the problem we are as of today” and I think it makes sense. We keep delaying the inevitable with what we are doing. We keep hanging onto a new ledge and eventually, everything will crumble to the bottom. Our best choice is to have organic growth and move toward primitive technologies and naturistic beliefs.

While many Muslims have settled in the West over the years, a question that always stays in the back of the mind of most people is how come these Muslims who have certain values that hardly fit with western ideas find allies in western society. This question is very hard to answer with empirical evidence, mainly because it is easy to get cancelled in the modern-day for barely speaking the truth. Good thing is, that it is not rocket science to answer such questions. All one needs is a little bit of travelling and the capacity to engage in conversation with the public and you will get an answer to this very simple mystery. In this article, I will share my findings on how Muslims in the west have found an ally among western liberals and what makes this Alliance of Islam and Western Liberals an irony.

There are two kinds of people among the Muslims that settle in the West. While one has abandoned the religion and others still believe in traditional Islam. For those who typically have no idea, we can describe the two versions of Islam as the extremist version and the rather modernized version which is called moderate Islam. While both versions have an identical base, they are two different religions ideologically. Modernized Islam is a liberal version of Islam whose followers according to most (if not all) Muslim scholars will be considered apostate.

These moderate Muslims very much align with liberal values mainly because they don’t believe in the religion but only carry the tag in form of a brand or maybe only because they are afraid of religious prosecution by radical Muslims. However, most radical Muslims have found shelter alongside these moderate Muslims by claiming things that seem rather appealing to Western Liberals. Not only this but this alliance is also a result of a common foe which is Right-wing anti-immigrant politicians in the west. Although theoretically, the radical Muslims and Western Liberals are the total opposite, they both align for their own benefits.

Let’s do a contrast of Islam and Western Liberal thinking about some famous political topics of the day. To your surprise, you will find western conservatives are more aligned with Muslims compared to western liberals.

  • The first thing we can discuss is abortion, although Islam does permit abortion in rare cases it mostly prohibits it. While one of the key stances of western liberals is to allow free access to abortion in any case whatsoever
  • The second most common topic of discussion is LGBTQ+ rights. While Islam does address the rights of the Trans community, it believes in a total ban on the LGBTQ+ community aside from the intersex people which can be considered a derogatory term by western liberals.
  • Also, when it comes to the feminist movement which is now against the scope of even the trans movement, Islam has a totally different meaning of women’s rights compared to western values. Truth to be told Islam is totally the opposite of the feminist movement.

While I have already highlighted a few reasons that make radical Muslims a friend of western liberals there are many others to be discussed. Including one of the most prominent ones in my opinion which is the wars in the Middle East.

While it comes out as a shocker, the war in the middle east got the western liberals and the radical Islamists very close to each other. The western liberals have supported the war in the middle east and have done a great effort to fuel the burning fire. With each was in the middle east the Islamists kept gaining influence and power in the region which makes the like the liberals for their what one might call “foolishness”. At the same time, liberals got attached to these Islamists because of how they are supposed to sympathize with everyone.

This is just one example of how the west aligned with Islamists, one can enlist several of these and most of them are not because they want to achieve something similar but because of the mere fact that they both have a common enemy to fight.

It’s a common practice in the information era to celebrate the victory of your government when they achieve something regardless of how they achieve it. However, giving power to government is bad idea in general. While on a global scale people will celebrate war, terrorist activities or cross border interventions. On local scales, these kinds of activities can express themselves in form of tyranny against minority groups. Over the last two and a half years we have seen the government take more and more power away from people. While this mostly came in form of medical guides, it later expanded to things most people never thought of.

Let us take an example from one of my favourite countries across Europe. Poland was one of the first countries around Europe to resist mandatory COVID lockdown. But not long into the whole chaotic fear the left-wing of Poland started working their way into making people believe a lockdown was very much needed and was costing lives in the country. While not only this was just outright a lie, it was also political propaganda to score points against the running government.

Regardless, it worked out and the left-wing of the country celebrated this as a victory for their politics since the masses would consider this as a defeat of the running government. However, only a few months later, while the dust still hadn’t settled completely Polish Government signed a decree that would ban abortion access for women across the country unless there was an acceptable reason for this. This bill created chaos for the left-wing since it caused a stir for women right across the EU. Not only did the Polish government face a backlash locally it had to face repercussions in the EU as well as globally.

Sadly, a precinct was already set, and medical autonomy no longer existed in the European framework and was overshadowed by recent global development. This not only happened in Poland but in many other European and non-European countries. In France, the crisis was used to overshadow the yellow west protest, in Greece it was used to stop student protests, even in China it was used to prevent Hong Kong protests. Although each was celebrated by a group of people, one who considers this as their own political victory, but little do they know all of this can come to bite them back in future, only it will be much worse.

I want everyone reading this to just imagine for a second the most extremist political leader you can think of, for me it will be Genghis Khan, and think all the power your own government has what of somehow this person secures it. Remember, seizing power is quite easy if you don’t have a moral obligation to play fair and an evil person has no morals. I can guarantee for myself I would never want this sort of power in the hand of a saint let alone an evil person.

Hence, the best idea we have for now is to limit government power as much as possible to a point that even if a tyrannical government takes over, the weakest individual in the country can take a stronger stance against the tranny.

Why Closed Border Hurts More Than Open Borders? https://politics.nasaralam.com/open-or-closed-borders/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=open-or-closed-borders https://politics.nasaralam.com/open-or-closed-borders/#respond Thu, 26 May 2022 18:25:24 +0000 https://politics.nasaralam.com/?p=46 One of the most prominent problems, that is part of political discussion in the west is keeping borders opened or closed. One of the most prominent problems, that is part of political discussion in the west is keeping borders opened or closed. Many people bring in their ideas and present quite compelling arguments about how open or closed borders are better a better choice. Personally, as an anarchist, I don’t believe there should be border control and as explained on my main political philosophy page one should be free to choose and form commune with whatever group of people they align with. However, things always need to be addressed in the current scenario. Which brings us to the question of open borders or closed borders, which option is better?

To answer this question easily let us look at the main reason for immigration. For legal immigrants, it is usually better job opportunities, and a chance to get a better education that leads to immigration to a new place. For illegal immigrants it is mostly, to obtain a living worth of wage to support their family or to escape some sort of prosecution. While the stats differ for legal and illegal immigrants drastically, we will keep our focus on illegal immigrants not only because they are the focus of this issue but also because for legal immigrants the borders are already open.

Among the two groups of illegal immigrants, the ones that come to escape prosecution are usually on run from culturally divergent things. Such people seek refuge in a place that will be tolerant toward them. For example, a woman who tends to be a victim of domestic abuse and belongs to Pakistan will seek refuge in Canada or a Western European country where she will be protected. This woman wouldn´t seek sanctuary in patriarchal Eastern countries where there is a chance of repetition of such heinous crimes. Similarly, a gay guy from Morocco will not seek refuge in Saudi Arabia who will sentence this person to death if found committing homosexual acts.

Hence, these people not only quite easily integrate as an immigrant but also these people tend to forget or stray away from their birth values because they have barely given them any benefit throughout their life. Not only is this group of people warmly welcomed into the new society because of their past but they are supported in many ways because of NGOs, governmental schemes, and UNESCO programs. And I am sure even the most arrogant of conservatives will agree that these people need assistance even if not the benefit they should be given free passage since they need it.

Now comes the last group, the one group that is the problem and is considered a financial burden by most people that stand against immigration. While like the legal immigrant these people come all the way to a new country to seek better employability and earn more money to feed their families. The only problem is because they came in illegally, they have one of two options. They can either lie and seek asylum which will grant them free money or work illegally which will give them relatively less amount of money, but they will be able to work. Obviously, most people opt for the first option because it’s free money.

In addition to this most of these people fail to integrate themselves into the new culture, mainly because they are side-lined because of all the existing regulations and hence in countries like France, Sweden the even UK we observe that there is neighbourhood entirely taken over by incoming illegal immigrants. People exploit their situation and hire them for a very less wage compared to what one will get paid as a minimum wage in the same country. While I was in Portugal, I even met some illegal immigrants who were working in return for a promise that they will get support for registration when the time comes. And even though legally it takes a year for this time to come for some people who are being exploited to the extreme this time never comes.

Since this is the scenario for closed borders what would happen if the borders remained open in these situations? Let us consider the same scenario, a person from a very poor background has just arrived in France. Considering there is no border restriction the person has no option but to work to fend for himself and his family. Obviously to avoid starvation the person will immediately seek out a job. If the job market is already saturated this person will either go ahead to another country or go back where at least his cost of living was less and the person was able to survive. Not only that it will be much better for this person to die by the people he loves rather than in a strange country. Now let’s say this person was able to find a job. The person will stay and work, however, there are again two options for this person, one is the person stays and integrates into the new country or two the person despises the culture. If the person integrates, the anti-immigrants again have no problem with this guy because the person in question has already submitted to their will.

However, if the person does not integrate, such person will try to earn only enough to go back and live a relatively better life in their own home country. This happens because the person is sure that if there is a chance that in future the person has a lack of money they can always come back, make a fortune while sacrificing a few years of life and eventually get back home happily. But if they had no such option, they would rather stay in the country that they so much despise and form a segregated community that will be hated by nationalists causing a divide in the country.

Hence, we can say in many ways open borders are a much more beneficial option compared to closed borders.
